Strictly Come Dancing is one of the BBC`s most popular shows in recent years. This show teams up both male and female celebrities with professional dancers. Each week the team of a celebrity and a professional dancer will have to learn and perform a new dance in various styles — the aim here is to impress the show`s judges and the voting public enough not to get sent off the show and to progress as far as possible through top the final stages. The last two couples in a vote will have to perform on a `Dance Off` where the judges decide who stays and who goes.
The BBC has shown the show since 1994. It is presented by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly although it was also briefly presented by Natasha Kaplinsky when Tess Daly was having a baby. The show has a famous panel of judges who comment on the team`s efforts and who have some say in who stays and who goes. Current judges include Len Goodman, Aleesha Dixon, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli. In the past the celebrities who have won the show include Natasha Kaplinsky, Jill Halfpenny, Darren Gough, Mark Ramprakash, Alesha Dixon and Tom Chambers.
Given the popularity of the show the people who appear on it gain a lot of publicity and many go on to take part in Strictly Come Dancing events and tours. For example, many of the professional dancers taking part in this years` show are taking part in special dedicated shows at Dukenfield Town Hall over the coming months. For example, you can see Ian Waite and Camilla Dallerup on the 2nd January 2010, Anton Du Beke & Erin Boag, Vincent Simone & Flavia Cacace , Darren Bennett & Lilia Kopylova, Brian Fortuna & Kristina Rihanoff and Matthew & Nicole Cutler, Ola and James Jordan. The couples are all true dancing experts and are regular members of the TV show. The shows here at Dukinfield are organised by Donahey’s Dance Club.
