Oti Mabuse is a South African Professional Ballroom and Latin American dancer.
Oti has been announced as Judge & Dance Captain on BBC One’s brand new TV show ‘The Greatest Dancer’. Produced by Simon Cowell the show is scheduled to air in 2019.
Born in Pretoria in South Africa, Oti began dancing as a young child alongside her sister who is also a professional dancer. Despite studying Civil Engineering at University, dancing has always been her true passion. As the eight times South African Latin American Champion, Oti moved to Germany in search of new challenges to broaden her dancing horizons.
28 years old (born 8th August 1990)
Pretoria, South Africa
In 2018 Oti’s celebrity partner is England cricketer and commentator Graeme Swann. So far they have danced some fabulous routines, including that Spider Man Charleston on Movie Week.
On joining Strictly, Graeme said, “I spent my career enjoying the excitement of performing in front of crowds and cameras. It’s a bizarre pressure that makes you sink or swim and I’ve missed it since having to retire from cricket.”
Last year Oti was delighted to be partnering Paralympic gold medallist Jonnie Peacock.
Jonnie & Oti performed some fabulous routines, providing an inspiration to all of us on what can be achieved.
They made it all the way to week 9 at Blackpool Tower Ballroom, where sadly their ‘Techno Tango’ got them eliminated from the competition – we’ll definitely miss this inspirational couple.
In 2016 Oti was thrilled to partner Hollyoaks actor Danny Mac all the way to the Strictly Final. Together they dazzled on the dance-floor, scoring perfect 10’s in week’s 9 & 10, plus of course notching up the highest ever scoring Samba …WOW!
In your dreams. She’s married to professional dancer, Marius Lepure.
Oti and her sister, Motsi who is also a professional dancer, both share a love of dancing and trained alongside one another as children. Oti studied Civil Engineering at university but her passion for dance ultimately shaped her career. Having won the South African Latin American Championships eight times, Oti relocated to Germany in search of new dancing challenges. Since then, she’s achieved many titles with professional dance partner Marius Lepure, including third place in the World Cup Freestyle Latin in 2014, second place in the European Championship Latin in 2014 and first place in the German Championship PD Freestyle Latin. And as if that wasn’t enough, she was also a World European Latin Semi-Finalist, a World Cup Championship Semi-Finalist and has taken part in the German version of Strictly Come Dancing, ‘Let’s Dance Germany’.
Her husband, Marius Lepure.
Erm, we’ll let you know.
Oti first graced us with her magnificent presence in 2015 when she debuted in series 13.
Anthony Ogogo, Danny Mac and Oti’s celebrity partner in 2017 was Paralympic gold medallist Jonnie Peacock.
No, but she did go all the way to the final with Hollyoaks star, Danny Mac. They scored perfect 10’s in weeks 9 and 10, as well as achieving the highest ever scoring Samba. Impressive.
