Strictly Come Dancing songs and dances revealed

As we all love to watch and critique the dances, choose our favourites and guess the scores, wouldn’t you love to know a little more about the style of dances and what they entail?

Here’s a brief overview of some of the different dancing styles you will see on the show. As you will see all dances are not created equal, some are much harder to master than others.

Argentine Tango: Originating in Buenos Aires, Argentina this sensual dance is filled with power and passion.

Cha-Cha-Cha: Synchronicity is the key to the Cha-Cha. This lively, flirtatious dance sees the partners working together in perfect alignment.

Foxtrot: The Foxtrot is an excellent dance for beginners. It is one of the most fun and simple dances to learn. The Foxtrot consists of long, smooth, flowing movements. This type of dance works particularly well with big-band or swing music. Former Strictly pro Aljaz is a big fan of the fabulous Foxtrot.

Jive: Originating in the United States the Jive is a fun, energetic swing dance, with lots of kicks and flicks. Giovanni is known to love the Jive!

Paso Doble: Surprisingly, due to its Spanish nature the Paso Doble originates from Southern France. This dramatic dance is modelled on the actions and movements of a Spanish bullfight. This is Johannes Radebe’s favourite dance. Johannes and John Waite are etched in our memory from last year, it was clear to see that he loves the Pasodoble.

Rumba: The romantic Rumba has a 4/4 beat and when performed well is a seductive and sensual dance. Head Judge Shirely Ballas is the Queen of Rumba and if you have the pleasure of watching her dance you will see why. This is also a favourite of Amy Dowden’s.

Viennese Waltz: Considered one of the hardest ballroom dances to learn. It is quicker than the regular Waltz and is characterised with the elegant rotation.

Waltz or Slow Waltz: A smooth progressive dance consisting of long flowing movements and continuous turns. In a well-executed Waltz the dancers appear to effortlessly glide across the dancefloor. As the King of Ballroom, NTA Judge of the year, Anton Du Beke is a huge fan of the Waltz.

Quickstep: This is a quick version of the Foxtrot. It is notoriously difficult to learn, however, it is one of the most exciting to watch. It consists of extremely quick stepping, and syncopated feet rhythms and runs.
